Townsend claims bronze medal at Glasgow Grand Prix and World Cup

GLASGOW, Scotland, Nov. 11, 2006 – Houston’s Sean Townsend won the bronze medal in the parallel bars at the 10th Glasgow Grand Prix and World Cup at Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena. Joseph Hagerty of Albuquerque, N.M., also competed in the event finals.

Townsend, who is a member of Team Chevron, earned a 14.700 for his parallel bars routine to finish in third place. France’s Yann Cucherat won the event title with a 15.350, followed by Poland’s Roman Kulesza with 14.925.

Hagerty, also a member of Team Chevron, competed in the finals for both the floor exercise and horizontal bar. In the floor exercise, Hagerty posted a 14.775 to place sixth. Germany’s Matthias Fahrig was first at 15.325. France’s Cucherat also won the gold medal on the high bar, scoring a 15.500. Hagerty’s 14.650 put him in sixth place.

Other men’s champions at the event include: Louis Smith, Great Britain, pommel horse; Alexander Safoshkin, Russia, still rings; and Matthias Fahrig, Germany, vault. For the women, the champions are: Anna Pavlova, Russia, vault; Beth Tweddle, Great Britain, uneven bars; Steliana Nistor, Romania, balance beam; and Sandra Izbasa, Romania, floor exercise.
