USA Gymnastics names U.S. Women’s Team for 2006 World Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Oct. 5, 2006 –2005 world champions Chellsie Memmel of West Allis, Wis., Nastia Liukin of Parker, Texas, and Alicia Sacramone of Winchester, Mass., and fellow 2005 teammate Jana Bieger of Coconut Creek, Fla., are among the women named to the U.S. Women’s Team for the 2006 World Championships, Oct. 14-21, in Aarhus, Denmark.

The members of the U.S. Team are: Bieger, Coconut Creek, Fla./Boca Twisters; Jacquelyn Johnson, West Chester, Ohio/Cincinnati Gymnastics; Natasha Kelley, Katy, Texas/Stars Houston; Liukin, Parker, Texas/WOGA; Memmel, West Allis, Wis./M&M; Ashley Priess, Hamilton, Ohio/Cincinnati Gymnastics; and Sacramone, Winchester, Mass./Brestyan’s.

Held at NRGi Arena, this year’s World Championships features team, all-around and individual event competition. Qualification rounds are Oct. 14-15 for the men and Oct. 16-17 for the women. In the preliminary rounds, the U.S. men compete on Oct. 14 and the women on Oct. 16. The men’s team final is Oct. 17, with the women’s team champions determined on Oct. 18. Both all-around finals are on Oct. 19, with the individual events divided over Oct. 20-21.
